The online football shirt market grows larger every day. Marketers are happy to fill the demand that football fans have for the latest designs from their favorite clubs. The World Cup has heightened everyone’s awareness of football, and it has become very popular to own a football shirt or two. Shopping online makes it easy to find exactly the shirt you’re looking for, and you can have it shipped directly to your house. No matter how far away from Manchester you may live, it’s never been easier to own a Manchester United 2010 home shirt.

Football Fan Sites : By far the most visible presence of online football shirt sales is in stores that cater to fans. These virtual shops carry shirts that represent every country, as well as shirts from the separate leagues in each country. You can find recent shirts that represent the European League teams, as well as individual teams from around the world. Most shops offer various shirts for each team, including the home and away jerseys. Famous players are well represented, and you can purchase a shirt with your favorite player’s name and number on the back from nearly any online store.

Football Kits : If you’re looking to outfit an amateur team to match a professional team’s kit, online football shirt sites can help you create the exact replica you’re after. There are sites that are specifically dedicated to providing new shirt designs for amateur teams as well. You can go online and plan your team’s entire look, from the shirt to the socks, and then order them to fit the players that are on your team. Ordering online takes the hassle out of hoping that each player gets to the sporting goods store on time, or that they all get the right kind of socks.

T-Shirts : Many fans like to shop online football shirt stores for t-shirts as well as replica jerseys. You can find generic football shirts that celebrate the sport, and you can also find fashionable shirts with the logos and labels of your favorite teams. Football t-shirts are a great way to add some extra passion for the game into your every day routine. There are shops that carry men’s and women’s t-shirts, as well as shirts designed for kids. Your options are limitless, and you can sort through the shirts from the comfort of your own computer chair.

Collectibles : Online football shirt sites are also a great way to track down collectibles. Many fans are interested in collecting shirts from specific years or specific players, and it can be very time consuming to try to find those items through club meetings and newspaper advertisements. Online there are several forums linked through shirt sites that will lead you to other collectors who may have the shirts you need. Online forums are also a great place to sell the shirts you no longer want to keep. Sometimes forum members will be willing to strike a deal for a swap if you’re lucky and have something they need.

Wayne Rooney’s father was one of nine men arrested as part of an investigation into suspicious betting activity, sources have said.

Wayne Rooney senior, 48 (pictured), and the Manchester United striker’s uncle Richie, 54, were detained when Merseyside police made nine arrests on Thursday morning, according to the Daily Mirror. A spokesman for the England star, who is in Montenegro preparing for Friday’s Euro 2012 qualifier, said: “There will be no statement from us as this matter does not involve Wayne.”

Motherwell player Steve Jennings, 26, was also arrested at his home in Glasgow over alleged betting irregularities around an SPL game. The match in question was a 2-1 victory for Hearts over Motherwell in December 2010. Jennings was shown a red card with eight minutes remaining of the game at Fir Park.

Merseyside Police said: “Detectives have today executed warrants at 10 addresses across Merseyside and Glasgow and arrested nine men as part of an investigation into suspicious betting activity. “The arrests are the culmination of a joint operation with the Gambling Commission and the nine who have been arrested for conspiracy to defraud are being interviewed by detectives. “Those arrested are a 29-year-old from Bootle, a 48-year-old from West Derby, a 54-year-old from Norris Green, a 26-year-old from Croxteth, a 22-year-old from Kirkdale, a 31-year-old from Litherland, a 68-year-old from Fazakerley, a 36-year-old from Kirkby and a 26-year-old from Glasgow.”

Stewart Regan, Scottish FA chief executive, said: “The Scottish FA has received notification from the Gambling Commission that the Motherwell FC player, Steve Jennings, was arrested at his home today by Merseyside Police. This follows extensive enquiries in relation to alleged betting irregularities at a Scottish Premier League match between Motherwell and Hearts on December 14, 2010.

“While the investigation involves several other individuals outwith Scotland, it is important to stress that the evidence gathered throughout this thorough period of investigation has involved only one Scottish match.

“Motherwell FC are aware of the situation and will issue a response in due course. The Scottish FA will make no further comment at this stage.”

Valencia Football ShirtA perfect start to the season has seen Valencia rise in the European rankings.

HOW IT WORKS

This season we will use the Hypercube Infostrada Euro Club Index, which scientifically analyses hundreds of thousands of matches from the top divisions in all European nations as well as Europa League and Champions League games.

The Index takes into account all matches played over an eight-year period but with recent results carrying more weight than older ones. The most recent result has 20 times more impact than a result of three years ago.

The performance of a league’s teams in the Champions League and Europa League reflects the rise or fall of the sporting level in that league. So, for example, if English teams perform well in Europe, all Premier League teams receive a small bonus in their ECI score. The ranking and its predictive power are thus made even more accurate.

Valencia were the big movers in the top ten as they rose to seventh place after continuing their 100 per cent start to the season with a 1-0 win at Sporting Gijon on Saturday.

Unai Emery’s side leapt above Premier League clubs Manchester City and Arsenal, both of whom failed to win at the weekend.

Arsenal drop two places to tenth as their poor run of form under Arsene Wenger continues.

In Serie A, Internazionale’s difficult start to the season has seen them drop to 12th place, below French club Lyon.

Rangers’ success in defeating Celtic 4-2 in the first Old Firm derby of the season on Sunday has seen them rise above their Glasgow rivals in the Euro Club Index.

Despite going 2-1 down in the first half, Ally McCoist’s side prevailed at Ibrox thanks to strikes from Nikica Jelavic, Kyle Lafferty and Steven Naismith.

The result saw them go four points clear at the top of the table and move up to 81st in the Euro Club Index.

As a consequence, Celtic slumped by ten places to 86th. In August Neil Lennon’s side were approaching 50th place but have dropped alarmingly in recent weeks.

Manchester United v Chelsea

Team news, manager quotes, facts and stats ahead of Manchester United and Chelsea’s Premier League clash on Sunday.

Team News

Chelsea will once again be without Didier Drogba for Sunday’s Premier League game at Manchester United. The striker will not be risked at Old Trafford three weeks after his sickening head injury, meaning manager Andre Villas-Boas must decide whether to start Fernando Torres or Nicolas Anelka. Ramires returns after being suspended for Tuesday’s Champions League win over Bayer Leverkusen while goalkeeping understudies Hilario and Ross Turnbull are both carrying knocks, although one will be on the bench.

Alex Ferguson has reported no fresh injury concerns. Nemanja Vidic (calf), Tom Cleverley (foot) and Rafael (shoulder) remain sidelined, whilst Danny Welbeck (hamstring) is not expected to be available until next week. Changes are anticipated though, with Ferguson expected to recall many of the players who were left out of his starting line-up for the midweek Champions League draw with Benfica.

Manager Quotes

Alex Ferguson: “There are similarities to the time when I came down from Aberdeen. I had achieved some things at Aberdeen. That helped me. It is the same for Villas-Boas. He won the double last year with Porto and also the Europa League. That achievement will stand him in good stead in terms of the start to his tenure at Chelsea. After that, the impression the players will get from him, in terms of his knowledge of the game and his man-management skills, is all in the future. He has had a good start though.”

Andre Villas-Boas: “It is the fifth game of the season, very early stages. No manager should be judged on five games of the season. People should focus on statistics that show what happened in the history of the Premier League, like that Man United team recovering the crazy amount of points they were behind Newcastle all those years ago.”

Match Facts

Javier Hernandez scored in three of his five appearances in all competitions against Chelsea last season.

Man Utd have set a new Premier League record of 17 consecutive home wins.

Match odds: Manchester United 7/8, Chelsea 4/1, Draw 11/4

XaviBarcelona midfielder Xavi has deemed his side’s 2-2 draw with AC Milan in the Champions League on Tuesday as unfair and unlucky.

The Spanish giants, and current Champions League holders, looked very much like securing all three points at the Nou Camp after Pedro and David Villa had cancelled out Alexandre Pato’s early goal.

Unfortunately for the Catalan side, Thiago Silva scored a header in the 89th minute to help his side share the spoils – something the Spanish midfielder believes was undeserved.

He said: “What happened on Tuesday is pure bad luck, totally unfair.

“The other day (Barcelona’s 2-2 draw with Real Sociedad) we dropped our intensity in the second half of the game, but this time the team played well, we pressurised them until the 90th minute and we had possession of the ball.”

Xavi has stated that his side are over the disappointment and will now focus all their attention on the upcoming La Liga match against Osasuna.

He added: “We have to win now on Saturday. We’ll battle on, we know we have a great team to carry on winning things and we’re competitive.

“It makes us very excited and every year we start from scratch without looking back.”

Wayne RooneySergio Aguero

Hat-trick heroes Wayne Rooney and Sergio Aguero lead the attack, but who else made the cut in our Team of the Week?

GK: Asmir Begovic (Stoke City)

The keeper was in imperious form when keeping a clean sheet against Liverpool. Luis Suarez was denied by one athletic stop but Begovic’s highlight came on 62 minutes when he twice saved from Jordan Henderson and then clambered to his feet to block an effort from Charlie Adam. Liverpool had 24 shots to Stoke’s three at the Britannia Stadium.

RB: Phil Jones (Manchester United)

The young man may well have been the signing of the summer given his rapid acclimatisation to life at Old Trafford. Deployed at right-back rather than centre-back, Jones excelled again in a 5-0 defeat of Bolton on Saturday, claiming two assists for Wayne Rooney, the second of which came following a mazy run through the home defence. Is he a centre-half? A full-back? A holding midfielder? Or quite possibly the brightest defensive talent seen in England in a generation?

CB: Vincent Kompany (Manchester City)

The Belgian displaced Carlos Tevez as City captain over the summer and he continues to excel with some inspirational performances at the heart of defence. His excellent reading of the game and tenacity were on display once again in a 3-0 victory over Wigan and Kompany also rattled the post with a header from a James Milner corner.

CB: John Terry (Chelsea)

The skipper produced a brilliant array of blocks as Chelsea secured a 2-1 win at Sunderland and also netted the opening goal as he chested down at the back post and smashed a shot home from close range after 18 minutes. Managerial regimes may come and go, but Terry remains a calming constant in the centre of the Chelsea defence.

LB: Leighton Baines (Everton)

Undoubtedly one of the finest players outside of the Premier League’s traditional powers, Baines enjoyed himself on Saturday during a 2-2 home draw with Aston Villa as he displayed his trademark endeavour from left-back and also scored from the penalty spot after 69 minutes. The England international could also have won a spot-kick himself and was a constant menace.

RM: David Silva

Okay, so Silva is not exactly a right winger, and he enjoys something of a free role for Manchester City, but such is his talent, he could play anywhere in midfield. On an afternoon that saw Sergio Aguero score a hat-trick, it was Silva who was named man of the match after another coruscating display. He assisted Aguero’s first and second goals and was involved in the build-up for the other, while also winning the penalty that Carlos Tevez missed. Simply magic.

CM: Scott Parker (Tottenham Hotspur)

Spurs’ new signing was thrown straight into the fray when handed his debut at Wolves and produced a performance that demonstrated why he was named Footballer of the Year last season, and why the Championship would have been an unfitting stage for his talent. Parker was a ball of energy in midfield as he harassed Wolves constantly and also produced a neat touch to tee up another debutant, Emmanuel Adebayor, for the opening goal of the game at Molineux.

CM: Raul Meireles (Chelsea)

Another deadline day signing who was handed his debut, Meireles helped orchestrate a 2-1 win over Sunderland with an influential performance in midfield. The Portugal international sat deep behind Frank Lampard and Ramires and provided vision from his role in front of the back four. His versatility will be a real asset for Chelsea this season.

LM: Juan Mata (Chelsea)

Playing on the left of the front three on his first start for Chelsea following a £23.5 million move from Valencia over the summer, Mata exploited the space afforded to him by Sunderland with a display of real purpose and promise. Accomplished on the ball, he also linked up well with his new team-mates and, under the watchful eye of Andre Villas-Boas, was at the heart of everything good about Chelsea’s performance.

ST: Wayne Rooney (Manchester United)

The striker has 10 goals in his past six games for club and country and became only the fourth man – following Les Ferdinand, Ian Wright and Didier Drogba – to score back-to-back hat-tricks in the Premier League with his treble at Bolton. Though his strikes were not exactly spectacular, the third was well taken and Rooney tore Bolton apart with his clever movement and expert use of the ball.

ST: Sergio Aguero (Manchester City)

Can a player who cost £38 million be considered a bargain? In the case of Kun Aguero, it is tempting to conclude that yes, they emphatically can. After his lovely hat-trick against Wigan on Saturday, the Argentina star has now bagged six goals in three-and-a-bit games since his arrival in the Premier League and continues to dazzle with his movement, pace and poise in front of goal. He benefited from some wonderful support play from Silva at the weekend but still had to apply the finishing touch.

Sir Alex FergusonSir Alex Ferguson has condemned the tackle that left Manchester United midfielder Tom Cleverley with a broken foot.

Cleverley left the Reebok Stadium on Saturday evening with his foot in a protective cast after being caught in a tackle by Bolton skipper Kevin Davies. Even Cleverley fears the worst, which comes at a bad time given the 22-year-old has just broken into the England squad.

The injury cast a shadow over United’s ruthless 5-0 triumph and left Ferguson biting his lip. “We think it is a broken foot,” said Ferguson. “It is unfortunate but we expected it. It was a bad tackle.”

Davies was not cautioned for the incident but shortly afterwards picked up his 100th Premier League booking for felling Patrice Evra. If the worst is realised, Cleverley can expect to be out for around three months.

The injury did not prevent United maintaining their sensational early season form, with Wayne Rooney becoming only the fourth player in Premier League history to score hat-tricks in back-to-back games.

It took Rooney’s tally onto eight for the season, more than 18 Premier League clubs have so far managed, the exceptions being United and Manchester City. It also moved him level with Sir Bobby Charlton on seven three-timers for the club.

It is a far cry from Rooney’s poor form of 12 months ago, with Ferguson believing the trigger has been his number one striker’s new-found maturity. “When players get to their mid-20s, there is more thought in their game,” said Ferguson. “Their timing is better. Wayne’s presence is good and he is looking fantastic.”

Rooney was joined on the scoresheet by strike partner Javier Hernandez. Handed his first start of the season, the Mexican took just four minutes to open his account, nipping in front of Gary Cahill to touch home Nani’s low cross.

Rooney then took centre stage, netting twice before the break and completing his three-timer after the interval before Hernandez rounded off another amazing win, coming just a fortnight after United scored eight against Arsenal.

“Without the goals, Jussi Jaaskelainen had two saves in the game,” reflected Bolton boss Owen Coyle. “We had double the shots, treble the crosses and David De Gea made some great saves. We paid the price for probably every mistake we made in the game but the Premier League is ruthless.”

Sir Alex Ferguson

Sir Alex Ferguson credits Patrice Evra for being the unsung hero behind Ashley Young’s remarkable introduction to life at Manchester United.

An £18million summer purchase from Aston Villa, Young has enjoyed a blistering start to his Old Trafford career, scoring two excellent goals against Arsenal a fortnight ago to cap a succession of outstanding performances.

“Some players come to a club like ours and find it difficult to settle in but Ashley has done exceptionally well,” said the United boss.

“He is versatile and has a good understanding of the game. He is getting great support from Evra on the left-hand side. The great experience Patrice brings is very important for a player coming to our club.”

United first spotted Young’s talent many years ago. However, Ferguson concedes the 26-year-old is a different player now to the one he kept an eye on back then.

“We tried to get him when he was at Watford but were just a bit late. He has matured at Aston Villa and his form last season was fantastic considering they had a difficult year. Since he has come to us, he has taken the challenge very well,” he said.

Goalkeeper David de Gea has not found it quite so easy, and at Bolton on Saturday can look forward to another searching examination of his abilities.

He was buffeted around pretty badly at West Brom on the opening weekend and the fear is of something similar being meted out by Kevin Davies. Not that Ferguson is concerned, especially if referee Andre Marriner does his job properly.

“There is nothing wrong with that,” said Ferguson of the pressure De Gea is likely to come under. “That is part of the challenge. Each game that comes along is a new experience for him.

“He actually did very well at West Brom in the sense of dealing with it but he didn’t get the protection from the referee at the time. We expect him to get better protection than that.”

Petr Cech

Chelsea enjoyed a major boost on Tuesday ahead of Saturday’s Premier League trip to Sunderland when Petr Cech returned to full training.

The goalkeeper had been ruled out for between three and four weeks after damaging knee ligaments in a training-ground collision last month but has made a quicker-than-expected recovery.

Understudy Hilario has failed to keep a clean sheet in the 29-year-old’s absence, producing a horrible error to gift Norwich an equaliser in Chelsea’s 3-1 win at Stamford Bridge 10 days ago.

That error against Norwich capped an erratic display from Hilario, and manager Andre Villas-Boas revealed after that game that Cech “might” be available for the Sunderland match.

Providing the latter does not suffer a setback, a recall now looks certain, although Villas-Boas insisted that would not mean he had lost faith in Hilario or Ross Turnbull.

“Hilario, Ross and Petr have been fantastic throughout all of pre-season and the beginning of the season, so I have confidence in all of the three,” Villas-Boas said.

New signing Raul Meireles, who trained for the second time with Chelsea on Tuesday after returning from international duty with Portugal, could make his debut at the Stadium of Light.

David Luiz also looks set to be available after missing the start of the season with a thigh injury.

The defender trained on Tuesday after returning from international duty, during which he was an unused substitute in Brazil’s 1-0 win over Ghana at Craven Cottage on Monday night.

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has said he expects Chelsea to be a “big threat” in the Premier League title race.

United assistant boss Rene Meulensteen has claimed the Blues squad is too old to reclaim the championship crown they lost to the Red Devils last term.

Chelsea have not performed that well so far this term, dropping points at Stoke on the opening weekend of the campaign before struggling to record home wins over West Brom and Norwich. However, Ferguson has enough knowledge of the players at Andre Villas-Boas’ disposal not to take anything for granted.

“They have tremendous experience – there aren’t any young kids in that team,” he told Inside United. “We wouldn’t be saying they are dead and buried would we? Why should they be? They’ll still be a big threat and we expect them to challenge.”

Certainly Ferguson does not feel the relative inexperience of Villas-Boas, at 33 the youngest manager in the top flight, should be a handicap.

“I am sure he’ll get plenty of advice from others and he will do fine,” said Ferguson. “I don’t know much about him. He is a young man and it’s a big step coming into the Premier League from the Portuguese championship, but given time and support anything is possible.”
